The LGBTQ+ community centers Pride around equality, visibility and dignity. Yet even the thriving Gayborhood of Philadelphia has a storied history of overt racism and erasure of black and brown people. For Pride 2017, Tierney met this issue head on. In partnership with Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs, we took an iconic symbol of representation, the rainbow flag, and evolved its design. We added black and brown stripes to ensure no one is forgotten or erased within the LGBTQ+ community. We are proud to still be a part of the on-going story in 2023.
This logo was inspired by the flag design itself. Utilizing a strip of the flag design to fill the letters helps to drive home this new symbol and its call to action of inclusivity within the LGBTQ+ community.
